U.S. Congress to Hold Hearing on Digital Currencies in March
The next hearing on digital assets will be held in the US Congress in the second half of March, according to an announcement on the website of the House of Representatives.
The Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy of the Financial Services Committee will meet on March 24 to discuss “domestic and international approaches to digital currencies”.
The Subcommittee is chaired by Missouri State Representative Emanuel Cleaver. No further information on the scheduled meeting is provided in the notification.
As noted by The Block, one of the likely topics for discussion could be the Libra stablecoin project being developed by Facebook. Previously, special attention was paid to him by the chairman of the committee, Maxine Waters. It was Waters who urged Facebook to suspend work on Libra while authorities study the project.
The Senate Banking Committee met last July to discuss digital currencies. The meeting was dedicated to “exploring the regulatory framework for digital currencies and blockchain”.
