LocalBitcoins eliminated the possibility of exchanging cryptocurrencies in person
LocalBitcoins, a popular peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange platform, has taken another unfriendly step towards its users.
As participants of the discussion on Reddit draw attention, the possibility of buying / selling cryptocurrencies in person for cash, which was one of the most interesting options of the service, suddenly disappeared from the site.
According to the archived version of the LocalBitcoins page for the US region, on the night of June 1, the corresponding option was still available to users. By the time of publication, the possibility of exchanging cryptocurrencies in person was disabled for all verified regions, including the Russian Federation.
Thus, LocalBitcoins users now have access to only such types of fiat transfers that are carried out using electronic means of communication, including bank transfers. The company itself did not give any comments in connection with the latest changes.
Earlier, LocalBitcoins announced its intention to tighten requirements for customer identification in accordance with European directives in order to prevent money laundering. The restriction on cash transactions is likely part of the company’s chosen course.
